Elementary Education Major With Lots of Childcare Experience - (Bloomington, IN)

I'm Monica and I'm currently in Bloomington for my sophomore year of college at Indiana University. While in Bloomington, I have fallen even more in love with my major, which is elementary education with a concentration in language arts and a reading license addition. Coming from a large family with over 60 cousins, I have been around children my entire life. Also, my mother has run a daycare since I was a baby, so I have constantly been around children at home. I volunteered in my church nursery for 3 yrs. I have also been babysitting since seventh grade. As a senior in high school, I was a cadet teacher so I spent half of my school days working with elementary school children. I also was a member of College Mentors for Kids throughout my entire freshman year of college. Through this program, I was able to mentor a sixth grade boy from a local elementary school. We spent about two hours together every Thursday with a group of other mentors and their little buddies doing activities around campus.
